Does Hamas use children as weapons?

Short answer: YES — as institutional practice, documented above all by Hamas itself. The evidence is not inference from enemies; it is the organization's own announcements, its own schools, its own television station, and the UN's formal listing.

  1. The camps, self-announced: the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades — Hamas's military wing — announced its "Vanguards of Liberation" camps trained 25,000 participants aged 15 and up in 2015 (live fire, shoulder-fired missiles, rappelling — AFP-covered at the time), and in 2021 publicly defended its ~50,000-registrant camp season rather than denying it.   4. The UN listing: in 2024 the UN formally listed the Qassam Brigades for the abduction of children — roughly 30+ minors taken hostage on October 7, the Bibas children the named case [VERIFIED]. The precisions that make this answer credible [the method]

  • The UN listing is for abduction and killing/maiming — not recruitment-and-use. No party in the Israel/Palestine theater carries the recruitment listing. Hamas's camps are documented by its own announcements instead — which is stronger evidence than a listing, and the accurate claim [VERIFIED]
  • A famous pro-Israel claim fails verification and this site says so: "160 children died digging Hamas's terror tunnels" — the Journal of Palestine Studies corrected its own article: "children" was inserted in editing; 160 was the total tunnel-death count; the tunnels were the commercial Egypt tunnels. What survives is still damning: first-hand documentation, in a Palestinian-studies journal, of child tunnel labor that Hamas's authorities did nothing to impede [VERIFIED — the observation and the correction, both printed]
  • The mirror sentence one standard requires: Israel's file contains a human-shields practice — using Palestinian civilians including children — documented, banned by Israel's own High Court (2005), prosecuted (two soldiers convicted, 2010), with disputed wartime recurrence under open military-police investigation.
