Do Palestinian textbooks teach hate?

Short answer: YES — content glorifying violence and some antisemitic material is documented in Palestinian Authority textbooks, verified not just by advocacy groups but by the European Union's own commissioned academic review. Math problems counting "martyrs," attackers presented as heroines, maps with no Israel — the photographed passages are real, and the EU's Georg Eckert Institute confirmed "anti-Semitic narratives and glorifications of violence" in the curriculum. The complete answer requires three more verified facts: the same EU review found the curriculum adheres to UNESCO standards in its human-rights and tolerance criteria — both findings sit in one report, and each side quotes only its half; the only study ever to examine both Israeli and Palestinian books with a single methodology found one-sided national narratives pervasive in both and outright dehumanization rare in both; and the maps finding cuts both ways — Palestinian books omit Israel, most Israeli books omit the Green Line. The documented content is real. The "uniquely hateful curriculum" framing and the "it's all fabricated" denial both fail verification.

The 2013 US-funded Adwan/Bar-Tal/Wexler study — Palestinian and Israeli scholars, Yale oversight, blind raters, 168 books from both systems: dehumanization rare in both; one-sided narratives pervasive in both; Israeli secular books the most self-critical; Israeli ultra-Orthodox books scoring closest to the Palestinian pattern. The test to carry away: ask for the passage, then ask for the denominator — the photographed page is usually real; the question is whether it's three passages or three hundred, and quoting the EU report's two findings as if it contained only one is the tell that you're hearing advocacy, in either direction.
